Pond Creation
Every site is different and we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We design ponds to fit naturally into the landscape, creating varied depths, shallow margins and features that provide shelter, breeding opportunities and feeding areas for wildlife. Ideally the pond won’t require a liner but where it does we can design it so the liner is completely hidden by the use of stones, gravel, wood etc
Pond Restoration
Many ponds gradually become overgrown with scrub, heavily shaded or filled with silt. While this is often a natural process, it can reduce the value of the pond for wildlife. We can restore ponds by removing excessive vegetation, reducing shading and, where appropriate, carefully removing accumulated silt. We carry out these works with due care for any wildlife and do our best to carry out the works so as to cause as little disturbance as possible.
Wetland Creation
In many cases, the areas around a pond can be just as important as the pond itself. We create scrapes, marshy areas and seasonal wetlands that provide additional habitat for amphibians, invertebrates, birds etc.
Aquatic Planting
Native aquatic and marginal plants play a vital role in any healthy pond. We can advise on suitable species and undertake planting schemes that enhance biodiversity while maintaining a natural appearance. We generally advise the use of native species because they provide a more natural appearance and are better for local ecology.
Invasive Weed Control
Invasive species such as Himilayan Balsam, Japanese Knotweed and Newzealand Pygmy Weed can quickly dominate ponds and wetlands, outcompeting native plants and reducing habitat quality. We provide practical control measures to help restore balance and protect valuable habitats.
Ongoing Management
Ponds are dynamic habitats and often benefit from occasional management to prevent them becoming overly shaded or choked with vegetation. We provide practical management plans and hands-on maintenance tailored to each site.
